Why We Homeschool

We homeschool for so many reasons!  The most important one is because God has clearly called us to be a homeschooling family.  We did not know this until we started homeschooling because we were trying to save the tuition costs of private school.  Shortly after we began home educating our oldest son we knew that this was to be a way of life for our family.

Here are the verses that I refer to when I start to wonder if we truly are called to do this.  Afterall, everyone has a bad day and wonders "What in the world have I gotten in to!!!"

Deuteronomy 6: 6-7
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up..

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

God commands us to train our children.  We are trying to train our children to live for Him.

In summary, God has called US to homeschool.  He has laid these verses  (and more that I may share later) on mine and Steve's heart as our calling to train our children.  Does he call every family...certainly not.  Just like not every person is called to work in a ministry not every family is called to homeschool.  Is everyday perfect....NO. In fact in the four years we have homeschooled I could probably count the perfect days on one hand!  But, it is perfect for our family!

If you are reading this as a prospective new homeschooler just remember, God can help you do this.  If you are feeling led at all to give it a shot then go for it and then PRAY, PRAY, and PRAY some more that God will give you the patience, wisdom, and understanding to make it through each day!
